
The Salvation Army held a Memorial Service for our Cornforth fallen
heroes on Sunday September 9th 1917 at 7pm.

West Cornforth War Memorial on Vicarage Road was erected to the memory of the 107 men and lads from
the parish who fell in the Great War. It was unveiled on
Saturday 15th November 1924 and cost approximately £325.

to Messrs Pease and Partners presided.
Mr Richard A Pease unveiled the memorial and delivered a touching
speech. As the memorial was unveiled, a party from the D.L.I.
presented arms and the last post was sounded. The Rev T. Fenton
Fyffe, dedicated the memorial, gratitude was expressed to the ladies
working party for what they had done towards the memorial and for
sending gifts to the lads and men during the war. Councillor Harling,
chairman of Cornforth Parish Council, accepted the care of the
memorial and the proceedings closed with the men of the D.L.I.
firing a volley and the benediction by the Rev T. Fenton Fyffe. Many
beautiful wreaths were subsequently laid around the memorial.
