Hello, My name is Diana Knowles (nee Fleetham) and I moved to
Canada from West Cornforth in 1979. I still visit my family who live in and
around the area and just love to visit all my old haunts. Love to visit the
church where I was married and to go down the wood. I have some wonderful
memories of growing up there, the innocence and the safety are two of the
factors. I imagine today, as it is the world over, that this is now gone, what a
shame. Anyway, wouldn't change anything about growing up in Doggie and I only
left supposedly for a year, but life moved on and this is where I now live, but
Doggie remains in my heart.
I am also saddened to see negative comments on the site, probably from people
who never lived there or people who live there now and maybe should move out if
they are not happy. Leave the people who live there alone to enjoy the quiet
life if they choose. I love West Cornforth and I know my brother Gary does
especially. Love to all my family if they are reading this and a big 'Hello' to
anyone who knows me. Thanks. Diana Knowles (nee Fleetham)
P.S. Web site is fantastic and I visit it often.

Hello, Diana Fleetham again. I was watching the video from the
Working Men's Club in the early 70's and recognised a few people. Brian (Buller)
Hudson who has unfortunately passed away now I think, Joe Fleetham (my dad), and
Mr. and Mrs. Jones from Elm Road, they had a daughter Jennifer who I used to go
to school with in West Cornforth Juniors. Great to see this, spent many a good
night at the disco and group nights in the club. Best wishes for 2008 to all in
Doggie.

Videos are great, don't know if I am wrong but I am sure the older
lady behind the bar is Hannah Banks. Ted Wegg was a long standing committee
member, used to call the bingo.
What great times they were, Cornforth has changed, in saying that I have never
left the village and don't think I ever will, all my ancestors lived here so I am
well rooted!!!

hello, I found in the paperwork of my father an address. Now I am
wondering if he is/was a soldier/officer in the second world war who stayed in
my parents home.

I think this is a brilliant site, a great achievement. My mum and
dad were both from Doggie, and both associated with the Salvation Army. My dad
was an Alderson, son of Arthur and 'Polly' of Verdun Terrace. I know that my
granddad Alderson had half-brothers called Ward. I'd love to know what happened
to the Ward thread of the family. Can anyone help? My mum was a Whitfield and
grew up in Poplar Terrace. Anyone remember anything of them? Email:

I really enjoyed looking at the site. i arrived in West Cornforth
in 1947 having married Tommy Mitton in Rome. I had many good friends in the
village and remember them fondly. Vera Smith and family came to mind as well as
many many more. The village was full of life with friendly people who helped me
to learn the language. I was taught how to make a proggie mat and how to cook
English food by Mrs Chatt. I went to icing classes in the welfare and I learned
to ballroom dance, I still dance . After Tommy died I moved to Carlisle to be
near my daughter Anna but my memories of West Cornforth are warm and happy. I
remember Theresa Gunn well. I am still in the British Legion and I try to visit
as often as I can.
My best wishes to everyone who remembers me.

Hello,
I would just like to say how interesting I found this web site. I am trying to
do a family tree and wanted to go back to some roots. I was born at Kelloe and
my family moved from there when i was very young. They moved back 27 years ago.
I make visits to Doggie, and have met some lovely people.

My last name is Cornforth... Fun to know there is a town that
bears that name. I'm guessing my late husband's ancestors may have come from
there.
Great Website. I enjoyed looking at the photos. Maybe some day I'll get to
visit.

I am updating the Conservation Area Appraisal for Cornforth
village on behalf of Sedgefield Borough Council. I wonder if anyone has any old
photographs of buildings in the village of Cornforth so we can see how they have
changed? If so, I'd very much like to include them in the revised report. There
will be a public consultation on this soon, but if you have any comments on the
conservation work in the village to date and what you would like to see in the
future, I am happy to take comments by email. My address is
